OVERVIEW

From a single engine vessel to a multi engine installation, this M150M Plug-in Kit, provides a complete replacement for the OE (original equipment) ECU for the Mercury 450R and 500R V8 outboard engines. The Mercury 4.6L V8 450R. Package includes Level 2 Logging as standard.

The kit utilises existing wiring, original fuel system, ignition and sensors, providing convenient installation with fully programmable control, compatible with Mercury dash types.

Along with fuel, ignition, throttle and drive trim control, this Kit also supports other OE ECU features, including;

  • Key Start Via OE CAN
  • Full dash functionality including warnings and run time for maintenance
  • Integration with multi engine boats via CAN
  • Stern Leg Position Monitoring
  • Multi Engine Synchronisation

The supplied start file contains all calibrations and settings for the sensors, port fuel injectors, ignition coils, knock control, throttle servo, cruise control. It has also been calibrated to match the OE factory fuelling and ignition. This saves a significant amount of time as it shortcuts the setup process.

The ECU fully integrates with other MoTeC products and provides pre-defined CAN messaging for all current Display Loggers, Loggers, LTCs, E888, GPS, ADR, BR2, PDM and SLM.

VEHICLE COMPATIBILITY

This product includes CAN messaging for full OE vehicle integration. The Package caters for OE Mercury vessel systems such as power steering, starting systems and dashboards.

This Licence is required to run the Mercury 4.6L V8 450R. Package in the M150M ECU.

OPERATION

Mercury OE Integration

To allow for the M1 ECU to communicate with the other OE modules on the CAN Bus (Dash, Body module, DTS, etc.) The following settings within the Mercury group need to be configured:

  • Mercury Engine Configuration
  • Mercury Engine ID
  • Mercury Dash Type
  • Mercury Dash Tank Configuration

Reference Mode

Package reference mode will be preset for a Mercury 450/500 Outboard engine.

ECU Power

The M1 ECU will be powered when the key is turned to ignition position.

Engine Start

This feature operates identically to OE behaviour.

Driver Switches

Various in boat switches are received over CAN bus and assigned to firmware resources to allow for mode switching or outputting to certain devices on the CAN Bus.

  • Dual Bank Lambda control is supported requires optional LTC with Bosch LSU4.9 sensor.
  • Physical settings for engine displacement, fuel density + molar mass, stoichiometric ratio and injector characteristics allow for simplified engine start-up prior to tuning.
  • Easy and fast engine tuning using engine efficiency map.
  • Engine load modelling based on inlet manifold pressure and inlet manifold temperature. Alternatively, allows for throttle based load.
  • Engine Charge Temperature calculation, allows for correction of Inlet Air Temperature.
  • Engine speed limiting with ignition cut and/or fuel cut with individual decay rates for smooth power reduction through Engine Speed Limit Decay table.
  • Transient fuelling compensation using physical modelling of fuel film.
  • Nitrous system with one activation stage with fuel and ignition compensations.
  • Test settings for most outputs, including injection and ignition outputs for easier setup.
  • Assisted engine start with dedicated fuel volume and idle compensations during crank and post start.
  • Configurable boost control (using a normal or inverted solenoid output).
  • Coolant temperature compensations for engine speed limit, ignition timing, fuel mixture, boost limit.
